New headquarters for BORG Automotive: focus on sustainability and productivity

Since the turn of the year, the Danish headquarters of BORG Automotive have been located at a new address: Following a construction period of around a year, Europe’s leading independent remanufacturer moved into a new, modern building at Funder Dalgårdsvej 12, Silkeborg. The company aims to produce 100 percent of the energy required to operate the building on its own using solar panels.

With its business model, BORG Automotive has supported the circular economy from the very beginning: Every year, the remanufacturer gives more than two million used automotive spare parts a second product life by bringing them back to as-new condition and protecting them from being scrapped. In doing so, the Group significantly contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions, raw materials, and energy consumption.

Increasing sustainability was also one of the goals pursued with the new building on the south-western periphery of Silkeborg. “Though our old and new buildings are only twelve kilometers apart, they are worlds apart in terms of facility technology and design”, explains Sten Højland, Director of Compliance at the BORG Automotive Group, who was in charge of the construction project.

Photovoltaic powers building and heating

The new premises feature state-of-the-art insulation and a powerful photovoltaic system that provides electricity to power the building and several heat pumps. “We are confident that we will be able to cover the energy requirements for the building’s operations, heating and cooling system entirely from our own renewable generation and thus in a climate-neutral way”, says Højland. In addition, the surroundings of the building, which is located directly next to the highway, are also to be developed: BORG Automotive is planning planted outdoor areas with a high recreational quality.

High productivity thanks to modern workplaces

The company’s customers will benefit indirectly from the move as well: Modern workstations, meeting and presentation rooms with short distances, a motivating environment, and a modern office infrastructure currently offer around 90 employees ideal conditions for efficient, fast and collaborative working. With 2,700 square meters of space, the building provides sufficient reserves for the company’s expected growth in the future.

Højland: “With our new headquarters, we are laying the foundation for optimal business processes and even more sustainability – to the benefit of both our customers and the environment.”
